"I have a lot of cherry wood that I would like to chip and make my own smoking chip. For my own personal use. Is there is something other than water I have to soak them in before using. Do you have to take the bark off first. Need some advise on how to make my own wood chips."

You need to add liquid smoke to the wood to get that smoke flavor.

I don’t know what your smoking but no liquid smoke is needed when you use real wood that is the whole point of smoking your wood and unless you are putting them straight on the fire than do not soak your chips. The steam will seal the meat and not allow for a truly good smoking. Low temps and lots of time to allow for that smoke to be absorbed is the best. A wood chipper works good and some like bark and some don’t I think it really depends on the wood that you are smoking. Hope this helped leave the liquid smoke for those who don’t want a true smoke.
