Fire Warning

Thursday December 2, 2004
Ed (HEATER7) Writes:

"My buddy recently purchased a Brinkman 2700 series grill. The big 6 burner stainless with side sink, side burner and a drawer between the doors and burners. He used it a number of times and liked it a lot. Sunday he had family over and grilled chicken. Some burners not turned on and some on low ( this thing has the capacity to melt itself down if all were on high with lid shut). Well here is where the warning comes. Make absolutly sure if you have one of these to keep it level. He didn't notice it was leaning down on the left side because the driveway tilts for drainage where he had it setting. This grill has a removable drain pan under the burners that directs the liquids back to a removable drawer in the center of the back. All very convenient for cleaning. Well by being off level all the chicken fat drained out the front left side into the handy storage drawer which happens to be just under the control knobs. If you have one of these don't store gloves or anything flamable in there! All he had in there was tongs and tools. It was a good thing he always turns off the tank when finished. This thing started blazing up after everything was shut down. They were in the house getting ready to eat and his son came in and said the grill is on fire. Burned off all the Knobs, the hoses and melted the hopper out that holds the sink. Ruined the thing and it would probably have burned the house down if he would have put it back in the garage right after use. Guess a person should wait for at least a couple hours before storing away. Needless to say it was very impressive and I have benefited by this accident. No one was injured. Just remember to keep any grill level for safety sake."
