Brinkman gas grill

Thursday April 10, 2003
Ed (HEATER7) Writes:

"Since people have been asking about gas grills(which I think are ok for folk who don't have time or space for a real cooker). I was wondering if anyone has checked out the Brinkman that Walmart is selling for $298. It has four individually controlled cast burners, porcelin cast grates, porcelin cast warming rack, electronic ignition, good temp gauge, side burner, wood chip drawer, drawer to catch drippings, a lot of stainless metal all around including front doors on storage compartment that also hides the LP tank. It is a fairly large grill and all for $298. It sounds to good to be true. It seems to have everything top line grills have that sell for $800. and up"

The Bottom Line
This unit has been discontinued. This grill retails around $300 and is distributed through Walmart stores. The poor cart construction make the grill a little unstable and there has been several problems with assembly of these grills. The grill is designed to look like a Weber knockoff with some stainless steel body parts, but those parts have poor quality steel and do little to make the grill better.

Guide Review - Brinkmann Pro Series 4400 60,000 BTU 4-burner Gas Grill Review
This grill has too many features to make it look better than it really is. While the cast iron burners and porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates sound good they are low quality components that will have trouble lasting very long under heavy use. The cart construction is weak and the grill has an unstable feel to it. This unit is at the top of a line of Brinkmann gas grills that you will find at Walmart. While the price sounds good for a grill this size (it’s big), this grill will not last.

The overall design of this grill is very similar to a Weber and it looks like that’s what Walmart wanted out of these units. A cheap knockoff of a superior grill. Don’t be fooled. Even at this price there are better units. The heat output from the four cast iron 15,000 BTU burners is pretty good for the size but the thin metals and poor heat flow will keep this grill from reaching high temperatures. Of course high temperatures will damage some of the internal components so I guess that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I have had several reports from people who have bought similar Brinkmann grills saying that the cart construction is bad and that assembly has missed a few bolts. However, if you aren’t going to be investing much in a grill this unit will most likely give you a year or two of service.

I also bought it last year. I thru away the stand due to it being unstable. So I placed it on a concrete stand and it worked for another month before all the gold and steel plating started to rust real bad.
It was covered at all times.I called Cus/Sev. no help after 30 days.

I bought this grill 2 years ago. I figured with a name like Brinkman it would be a good grill. I was wrong. The grill has self destructed since I bought it. All the knobs have melted off,it either wont cook the food or it burns it, I can only get one burner to light the rest have all but fallen apart. I would like my $300 bucks back I feel ripped off.

I bought this grill (Stainless steel)one month ago from Walmart. Set up was easy. This grill was kept in dry shed. After one month, the so-called Stainless Steel started to rust. Used it once, heat distribution was mediocre. I took it back to Walmart for a full refund. Get the one at Target, it’s better constructed.
And in repsonse to a previus comment - I dont think CU rated this particular model. It was a prevous model from Walmart which as been disconinued.

I bought this grill 2 years ago works great have had no trouble with it at all. drilled holes in the end to hold my fork and what not’s. Like almost any gas grill it has its hot spots but after using it two or three times I firgured it out and cook a great steak and anything/everything else on it. Like the fack that it has enough room that I can smoke at one end to get the flavor I want and cook the food at the other. Dont know why all the others have rusted so, that have been covered, I have had no problems with mine at all. Still works like a brand new grill lites within two clicks of the igniter. Heats up fast and the grates still look new, I do burn off the excess when I’m done though.

I bought the one just up from the one being discussed here, the 6 burner model, almost 2 years ago. Haven’t had a single problem that wasn’t easy to fix.

The regulator goes out every once in a while, but it only costs 19 bucks to replace (home depot).

It has definately been a joy to use, have cooked everything from hot dogs to baking my christmas ham on it (yes even baked the thanksgiving turkey on it).

I suggest getting one and using it often.

Bought mine 3 years ago. I ordered $150 worth of parts in early February. I received half of them (very poorly packaged) in about two weeks. The others were marked back ordered. I called customer service in early March (45 minutes on hold) and was told it will be another six to eight weeks. The parts I am waiting on are still listed on their web site as shipping in 5-7 days and the heat plates are now four dollars less than the ones I paid for and still haven’t received. The Better Business Bureau lists their customer service record as unsatisfactory. DO NOT BUY A BRINKMAN GRILL UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO THROW IT AWAY IN TWO OR THREE YEARS. I have not read a single review from anyone who ordered parts and actually received them without a problem.

(17) Lorenda says:

We bought a Brinkman Grill at Walmart 2 years ago. The grill grates need to be replaced. I placed an order for them 2 weeks ago on-line and have yet to receive them. I called today, after a 45 minute wait on hold I was informed that they where backordered for another 6-8 weeks. I canceled the order and we are looking at getting a different grill. Make sure what you get is all stainless steel inside and out. We keep our grill covered and still all the parts inside that are not stainless are rusted and falling apart. If you want a grill to last longer than 2 years buy something else.

Brinkmann does not have a service dept. They do have a “lets cause aggravation” dept. But there is no customer service and certainly no customer courtesy. We bought our Brinkmann at WalMart. We thought it was a great deal then. But the porcelian grates wore out quickly. And they do not list the proper parts on their website. They sent the wrong parts, and would not acknowledge it. Finally after promising to get the credit card company invloved; they sent me an order for the missing grates. These parts are on backorder. This started in early June. PLEASE NEVER BUY ANOTHER BRINKMANN PRODUCT!!! SAVE YOURSELF!!!!

I BOUGHT A BRINKMAN. THE FIRST DAY A FOOT FELL OFF AND I FOUND A BROKEN KNOB. I CALLED FACTORY AND THEY PROMISED NEW PARTS. I RECEIVED THE FOOT BUT THE KNOB WAS BACK ORDERED. IT HAS BEEN APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AND I CANNOT GET A RETURN CALL.
