Probe thermometers
"Last year I bought two Pyrex probe type instant read thermometers. After about 6 months of use neither probe will read correctly, they both read at least 100 degrees too high. I thought that the problem might be because I put the probes in the dish washer but I would think the tempratures inside the smoker would be higher and so the dish washer wouldn't hurt them. Does anyone out there have any experience with this brand of thermometer? Did I just buy a cheap thermometer and, if so, does anyone have any suggestions on a good brand? If i just mistreated these does anyone know how I can buy replacement probes? Thanks for any help."

I have had siimilar experiences with Pyrex probe thermometers. my first one lasted about 6 years, the second 6 months and the last one malfuntioned as you indicated during my first batch of beer…at 122 degrees F. Now it reads 100 degrees high as well. My first one was a Radio Shack unit but is no longer made. I ended up using a turkey fryer thermometer but miss being able to leave it in the stovie while roasting.
Yeah… I do also have the same problem!! After 9 month of use, my Pyrex probe started reading 100 degres too high. I never put it in the dishwasher and never in the oven. I am now looking for a new probe!
